Promoting peace working with youth.

POF works side-by-side with Afro-Colombian communities in the Valle de Cauca located in mid-western Colombia. Together we face challenges in maintaining peace and at the same time finding ways to pursue sustainable development in an area which has been occupied by armed groups since 1960s. Our dual strategy is to neutralize violence and promote peace in the towns with local youth groups who rely on a unique peacebuilding culture inherited from their ancestors. We create ways to look at the future and gradually build new opportunities for sustainable development. With these new opportunities, we hope to contribute to stable and healthy towns in the Valle de Cauca and combat the ongoing internal displacement of men and women, which is currently the second highest globally.
